📝 COURSE DESCRIPTION
This FREE LIVE ZOOM lecture is a high-yield, exam-focused session designed to help ARDMS Abdomen candidates clearly understand Section 9: Abdominal Vascular Sonography, one of the most tested and most misunderstood sections of the ARDMS Abdomen exam.
The lecture explains abdominal vascular anatomy, Doppler flow patterns, and pathology in a simple, clinical, and exam-oriented way, linking sonographic findings directly to ARDMS-style questions. Emphasis is placed on how ARDMS asks questions, common exam traps, and how to analyze images and waveforms correctly.
Participants will learn how to:
-
Differentiate normal vs abnormal Doppler waveforms
-
Recognize AAA, dissection, rupture, EVAR, and endoleaks
-
Understand IVC, portal, hepatic, renal, and gonadal vessels
-
Identify pseudoaneurysms, AV fistulas, and vascular complications
-
Apply knowledge using 100 ARDMS-style MCQs and a timed electronic quiz that simulates the real ARDMS exam
This session is ideal for: 🎯 First-time ARDMS Abdomen candidates
🎯 Repeat exam takers
🎯 Students who feel confused about Doppler & vascular questions
🎯 Sonographers seeking stronger clinical understanding
All participants receive FREE access to: 📺 Lecture recording

- SECTION 01: INTRODUCTION, TERMINOLOGY & BASIC PRINCIPLESIntroduction Abdominal vascular sonography focuses on the assessment of the arterial and venous circulation of the abdomen using gray-scale imaging, color Doppler, and spectral Doppler. This section includes evaluation of the abdominal aorta, its major branches, the inferior vena cava (IVC), and the portal venous system. Many of these conditions are life-threatening if not detected early, making this section highly tested on the ARDMS Abdomen exam. Key Terminology • Abdominal Aortic Aneurysm (AAA): Abdominal aorta diameter > 3 cm • Aneurysm: Focal or diffuse dilation of a vessel • True Aneurysm: Involves all three vessel wall layers • False Aneurysm (Pseudoaneurysm): Contained rupture of a vessel wall • Atherosclerosis: Plaque accumulation in arterial walls • Budd–Chiari Syndrome: Occlusion of hepatic veins ± IVC • Embolism: Obstruction caused by traveling material • Thrombus: Blood clot formed in situ • Fusiform Aneurysm: Spindle-shaped dilation • Saccular Aneurysm: Sac-like focal dilation • Intimal Flap: Sonographic sign of aortic dissection • True Lumen / False Lumen: Original vs residual vessel channel • Hepatopetal Flow: Blood flow toward the liver • Low-Resistance Flow: Persistent forward diastolic flow • High-Resistance Flow: Reduced or reversed diastolic flow2
